Coronavirus continues to have a significant effect on businesses across the construction industry, including surveying practices and building consultancies. The government has been clear on advising that construction work should continue and sites should remain open across the UK.
At UNEK, we have been ensuring that any urgent property inspections are carried out within a timely manner, besides ensuring that government guidelines are adhered to. We have also introduced additional measures to ensure that we prioritise urgent inspections and delay any non-urgent visits.
The measures we have taken to keep both staff and occupants safe during property inspections include (but are not limited to):
Ensuring that the occupants are not self-isolating (particularly those within a vulnerable group).
Ensuring that social distancing is complied with and occupants are in a separate part of the building whilst the inspection takes place.
Ensuring that our consultants avoid the use of public transport by travelling alone to the property by car.
Ensuring that our consultants use adequate PPE, including disposable gloves, mask and shoe protectors.
Please note that if our consultant finds that the government guidelines are not being followed and the their safety is being compromised, he/she may terminate the inspection on safety grounds and have it re-scheduled.
On the whole, despite the unexpected challenges faced by practitioners as a result of the global pandemic, we are continuing to adapt our work practices by introducing strict safety measures to carry out inspections to enable vital construction works to commence.
If you require advice on an Accessibility, Building Surveying or Party Wall Matter, please do not hesitate in contacting our team to discuss your requirements.
